The Competition October 13, 2009. © Talon Truitt Cherry, All rights reserved She fell asleep with candles on the table Dinner at five was something rarely seen at all Tonight she's at the turn of her own fable and it doesn't seem right to just break down and call So now that he is gone again she packs her bags and calls her friends It takes all she's got to not stick around and fall He stumbled through the front door, not quite sober Even through the haze of liquor something wasn't right If he left her alone again the war was over Tonight it seams the alcohol has won the fight And even though she's gone again He won't ever blame his liquid friends As he fights the urge to just break down and cry When she woke in the morning the bed was empty Last nights good idea just felt all wrong Echo's in her head "he won't forgive me" He'll find another women, it won't take long Even though he's just a drunk within She just wants to hold her love again but her foolish pride just lets her pass him on When he woke in the morning the tears had found him Every drop that fell spelled "man she's gone" Echo's in his head "She left for good Tim" She'll find another man, it won't take long And even though she's at her friends He fights the urge to call again His foolish pride just lets him pass her on Passion slowly dies as years grow empty Two stubborn souls lay down without a fight She thinks foolishly he will not miss me And he believes that she is doing alright She lives her life so empty within and every night he's drunk again So these two lives burn out before they die
