Dirt Road September 30, 2014. © Talon Truitt Cherry, All rights reserved I've walked on streets of gold, held hands with an angels soul. Flew through hell by the grace of God, when the foot prints wouldn't show. I've known love and its rival twin, seen death end, and life begin. I've known days without a friend, and nights that wouldn't end. On that cliché dirt road, the all I know road. Where the shadows of my every move play the best parts of my life That crushed stone dirt road, the bridges burnt road. Where the only comfort left to find is in the hope you did things right. I've got wounds that may never close, Brass shells stitched into my cloth's. Triggers latched that were never pulled, and lead between my toes. A cold hole where a heart once lived, A second chance that I cannot give. Level headed with an equal fate, and a natural sedative. On that blood stained dirt road, the empty hurt road. Where all who dare to fallow there lay down without a fight. That choked up hurt road, the lovers cross road. Where the footprints go their separate ways, and are gone by mornings light. And now I see that light can bend, Good march on against the wind. For Gods sake when you need a break, don't break until you win! Some fools will walk on by, A second chance is a chance to die. We all decide if its wrong or right to clip our wings before we fly. On that endless dirt road, the lessons learned road. Where the rocks I kicked on lonely days pathed a path on through the night. On that ripped jean dirt road, the no white shirt road. Where the solace of my life's regret is always just in sight.
