Almost Home July 30, 2009. © Talon Truitt Cherry, All rights reserved Sold my heart out on the interstate when they said it was made of gold If you ask it wasn’t worth the trade, but at least I saved my soul I might replace it right some other day, for now its rocks and coal While the midnight says a prayer for me the signs say almost home Drivin side by side with morning light the sun just seems to roll See the steam rising up from my bike like a ghost out on the road And if I don’t make it home tonight I just might lose my soul With my heart out on the interstate the path is patched in gold Almost home… And it seams that I might lose the fight, but its too soon to know Was I right to leave the past behind did the highway help me grow After all no one gets out alive we all walk on death row All the violins that play tonight seem to guide my journey home One quarter mile left to go, and I feel so damn old It would seam that driving home tonight has slowly showed its toll In the right hand I hold memories in the left I hold my soul Underneath me is the road I need still patched in parts of gold Almost home… Three feet out I stop my bike, and gaze upon the road Inside I have my family, out here I’m all alone Was I right to leave the past behind its still too soon to know I leave my bike out in the light left on to guide me home In the midst of all my traveling I found something I could hold Maybe it's time that I replaced the coal with a new heart made of gold Yes the old one it still calls to me some ware out on the road I’m not done with my adventures I just need some time to grow Almost home…
